HQ DAKSHIN BHARAT AREA

HISTORY OF DAKSHIN BHARAT AREA

 

The ‘Madras Garrison’ was established by Lt Jarmin on 20 February 1640. Major General SM Shriganesh was the first Indian Officer to Command the garrison in 1947. Post-Independence the garrison was re-designated as Madras Sub Area. In 1947, ATNK&K Area was raised with succeeding three Sub Areas under its command: -

(a)     Tamil Nadu & Kerala Sub Area.

(b)     Karnataka Sub Area.

(c)     Andhra Sub Area.

After the union territory of Goa was placed under its jurisdiction the ATNK&K Area was re-designated as ATNK&G Area on 12 Oct 1988. On 09 February 2004, the state of Goa was re-orbatted to Headquarters M&G Area and again this Area was renamed as Headquarters ATNK&K Area. Post bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Headquarter ATNK&K Area has now been re-designated as Headquarter Dakshin Bharat Area since 13 January 2015. It comprises the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,Karnataka and Kerala and the territories of Pondicherry, Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands.   
GOLDEN PALM SAINIK INSTITUTE (GPSI)

 

 

				

					Golden Palm Sainik Institute (GPSI), is an institute for all ranks and their families

				

					 

				

					with a special focus on providing social and welfare amenities to JCOs, OR, veterans and

					The Palm Grove Boys Hostel is located near Saint Thomas Mount Church opposite OTA, Chennai. This hostel was established in 2011 for wards of serving/ retired Offrs, JCOs & OR desirous of pursuing higher studies at Chennai. The hostel is well connected with all important education institutions by rail and road. There are 20 optimally furnished rooms at the hostel.

					The Palm Grove Girls Hostel is located inside Old Fort Glacis (OFG) Officers Enclave at Island Grounds,Chennai.This facility was created to provide boarding & lodging facilities for daughters of serving & retired Officers, JCO/OR pursuing higher studies at Chennai. There are five furnished rooms inside the Girls Hostel.Two girls can share one room and thus it has a capacityto accommodate ten girls. Facilities available at the Girls Hostel are Airconditioned rooms, Washing, Dining and miniGymnasium facilities.
