GREAT BATTLES OF 1971 WAR

BATTLE OF BOGRA

 

At 0930 hr on 15 Dec 71, ‘A’ Company 5/11 GR on reaching Bogra Railway Station came under heavy enemy fire.

Fighting Fiercely ‘A’ Company secured the Railway Station by last light. Later the Battalion advanced forward to capture Bogra Cantonment, a major point of resistance by Pak Army.

During the fierce fight, the Battalion captured nine Officers, six JCOs and 212 Other Ranks of Pak Army. Later on 16 Dec 71 the Pak Army surrendered.

 

 


 

BATTLE OF PARBAT ALI
 

On night 12/13 December, during the 1971 War, 10 SIKH deployed along the Western Front penetrated more than 80 Kms deep into the Pak territory. The battalion spearheaded a daring attack against a stiff opposition from the main defences of ‘Parbat Ali’ on the out skirts of ‘Naya Chor’ (Sindh).

The‘ Parbat Ali’ feature was a dominating sand dune heavily fortified with LMG/MMG bunkers & high density mine fields, it was occupied by 21 Frontier Force of Pak Army.

After a fierce hand to hand fight, 21 Frontier Force retreated, leaving behind many dead, huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

 

 


 

BATTLE OF PT 13620

 

Pt 13620 is a strategically important location in Kargil, this post overlooks Kargil town and the Srinagar-Leh highway, the lifeline of Ladakh.

On Ni 6/7 Dec, 2/11 GR was tasked to capture Pt 13620. The Veer Kiranti’s of the Battalion fought fiercely against well entrenched enemy defences.

By last light on 7 Dec, Indian Flag flew over the majestic 13620.

 

 


 

1971 : INDIA’S LIGHTENING RAID ON ENEMY
(MANDHOL GUN POSITION)

 

A spectacular and daring commando raid by 9 PARA deep inside enemy territory where six of enemy artillery guns were destroyed with scores of enemy dead and the group returned victorious in the finest traditions of the Indian Army.
