The War Museum is located 10 km from Jaisalmer on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Highway near the Military Station. This unique museum has been designed with the view of honouring the contributions and sacrifices of war heroes and to highlight their bravery. The museum has two large information display halls, an audio visual room and a souvenir shop. In addition, there are war trophies and vintage equipment on display alongwith tanks and military vehicles. The murals of the soldiers, whose supreme sacrifice led to victory in the Laungewala Battle and the 106 mm Recoilless Gun (main anti-tank weapon) employed to destroy a number of enemy tanks occupy a place of pride in the memorial.
A scintillating 'Light and Sound Show' using state of the art audio visual technology is also organised at the museum which showcases the valour, pride and rich heritage of Indian Armed Forces.
The museum has a state of art audio visual theatre for screening the movie on the Battle of Laungewala. On the 'Honour Wall' are etched the names of Param Vir Chakra and Mahavir Chakra awardees who have done the nation proud and inspire future generations. The museum is open seven days a week.
This hall narrates the Battle of Laungewala through its sand models, war displays and photographs. The progress of the battle showcasing important events that took place are highlighted with number of miniature models and write ups. The hall reiterates the saga of courage, comraderie and fearlessness of Indian Army.
This hall showcases evolution of the Indian Army since 19th century. It is dedicated to 1948, 1962, 1965 and 1999 Kargil war. The hall provides a brief on various battles, units involved and gives insight into the proud events, bravery, courage and sacrifice of our soldiers. The hall displays various Indian and captured enemy equipment.
It is an important attraction of the Jaisalmer War Museum. A state of the art audio- visual system takes the audience through the journey of Battle of Laungewala and other motivational films with glimpses of our glorious past in a comfortable ambience.
Well stocked souvenir shop with an aim to provide visitors with army related memorabilia to remember their visit to the Jaisalmer War Museum. Coffee mugs, caps, t-shirts, key chains etc are available in the shop. Local artefacts of Jaisalmer are also available.
